Bohemian Gothic Tarot

If you haven’t already, you must preview the new Bohemian Gothic Tarot deck soon to be released by Magic Realist Press. It’s stunning. The card images transport me to a dark, frightening, yet gorgeous world.

They are taking pre-orders. And while you are at the Magic Realist Press’s shop, the Baba Store, you must check out their tarot bags—they’re to die for! They have images of cards from the Bohemian Gothic Tarot as well as Karen Mahony and Alex Ukolov’s other amazing decks: Baroque Bohemian Cats Tarot, The Fairytale Tarot, The Fantastic Menagerie Tarot, The Victorian Romantic Tarot, and Tarot of Prague.

Tarot of the iPod!

November 20, 2007

iPod Tarot

Tarot of the iPod is an exciting new collaborative project conceived of and produced by Leisa ReFalo, host of The Tarot Connection podcast.

Download an audio file for each tarot card, hit shuffle, and see what card your MP3 player pulls for you! As Leisa points out, this allows you to do a reading for yourself in places where you might not feel comfortable taking out your cards.

There are plans to offer text for several different decks. Right now you can listen to reflections on the major arcana cards from P.D. Ouspensky’s The Symbolism of the Tarot.

I was honored to contribute to this project by recording the text for my birth cards, Strength and The Star.

Also be sure to listen to the latest episode of  The Tarot Connection, and find out how you can turn your iPhone into a tarot deck!

I had the pleasure of interviewing Leisa for the Tarot Table Talk podcast. I hope to have that episode up soon.

Point of View

November 9, 2007

I’ve been playing with the cards, trying to come up with some new exercises. Here’s a simple one:

Go through the deck and pull out all the cards your *_____ would use to describe you.

*Fill in the blank with various people in your life:

  • mother
  • father
  • sibling
  • partner
  • co-worker
  • friend
  • pet (Yes, pets are people, too!)

For each round, record the cards so you can see how many come up multiple times. I’ve attached a Tarot Chart, Word doc. you can download for this purpose.

When I did this, it was interesting to discover that one person in my life might describe me as the shadow side of a card while another might describe me as the light side of the same card.

If you like to write fiction, try picking cards characters would use to describe one another.

Let me know what you think!
